Walk the docks of America’s most valuable fishing port with an insider guide from the Fishing Heritage Center, then explore their museum’s powerful exhibits on fishing families and history — before tasting your way through New Bedford’s diverse neighborhoods on a guided food tour. From the smell of salt air to the flavors of the city’s many cultures, this is New Bedford the way locals know it.
Itinerary
10:00 AM — Working Waterfront Tour
The tour is led by Fishing Heritage Center guides, with deep roots in the fishing community. Explore the docks, fishing boats, gear, the seafood auction, shoreside businesses, and the iconic Seamen’s Bethel.
11:30 AM — Fishing Heritage Center
Explore exhibits celebrating the fishermen and families who built New Bedford. Admission is included.
12:00 PM — New Bedford Food Tour
Taste your way through Downtown New Bedford, visiting local restaurants that reflect the city’s remarkable cultural diversity. (Note: this tour focuses on non-seafood offerings.)
3:00 PM — Tour concludes in the historic district.
